MamaNem Southern Kitchen is a solid stop for good soul food. Cafeteria-style setup made it quick and easy — food didn’t take long at all, even with a full menu of daily choices to pick from. Everything was fresh and full of flavor, and the staff were genuinely nice, which always makes a meal better. The rotating daily specials mean there’s a reason to come back and try something new each time. Great value, great service — recommend it if you’re looking for real Southern cooking without the wait.

Oh my good Lord!!!! Listen, I was craving a home cooked soulful meal that I didn't have to cook and I found my forever spot. Everything was amazing. From the welcoming staff, to the flavorful meal. The atmosphere was beautiful and facility was very clean. I will definitely go back. Especially for a Sunday meal after church. I'm really excited that real food with a family vibe still exists. Thank you Mama' Nem.

As a first-time visitor, I am really disappointed in my meal. The chicken- although looks good- was definitely fried in old grease, giving it a burnt, ashy taste with zero flavor. When I say NO seasoning, I mean NONE! Frying meat in old oil is a major red flag about an establishment's quality control and care for its customers.
On the positive side, the cabbage and yams were good.
The mac and cheese wasn't quite my vibe due to how it was seasoned, but it wasn't bad. Overall, because of the chicken, I am not sure I will return.

Pork chops were thick and cooked right tender with each bite. Sweet yams & Mac n cheese. Overall flavorful and good with each bite. I want to try oxtails and turkey wings next.

I came from Atlanta, GA to visit this national treasure of a restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we felt like family. Arlene was a amazing, she was sweet, funny, and a wonderful host. Chris, the owner, was friendly and welcoming. It was an honor to finally get a chance to eat at this restaurant. I'd highly recommend anyone passing thru Birmingham, AL to visit this fine establishment.
