Awesome vibe, great food. Really love the oyster Rockefeller poboy. Shrimp gumbo was really good. Viet seafood poboy is a bit spicy for us. Their foods are very close to eating in NoLa.

My wife and I recently visited the Rougaroux in Mountain Brook and I was in the area so I decided to eat there again. I wasn’t quite sure how to get back to it so I asked my car to navigate to the Rougaroux restaurant thinking that it would take me to the slowest location. My car had other ideas. It proceeded to take me to the original Rougaroux in the city of Birmingham. It was somewhat further away, but I figured “what the heck, I haven’t had a chance to evaluate that location yet).
I learned a lesson at the other location which I applied here. You get as many shrimps with the $17 shrimp poorboy as you get with the $24 shrimp basket. That is if you don’t mind not having the fries that go along with the basket. I ordered the shrimp boy boy, and as an extra, a link of boudin as well.(I am a Cajun from Lafayette, Louisiana, and boudin reminds me of the place where I was born and raised.)
As expected, the shrimp were wonderful - crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked in the inside with a great flavor. I don’t know if they bake their own poorboy buns at the restaurant, but the bread is outstanding. The Boudin had a very nice flavor. (if you’re not familiar with Boudin, it is Cajuns sausage made with ground pork and rice inside)
The atmosphere at Rougaroux is fun. There’s all kinds of stuff nailed to the wall that reminds you of the restaurants New Orleans roots. Right by the door there is a human sized statue of a Rougaroux, the mythical monster that supposedly prowls the swamps of southern Louisiana.

First time here and WOW—this place was incredible. From the decor to the friendly staff and bold flavors, everything impressed us. The bartender was super kind, walked us through the specials, and made great recommendations.
We ordered the shrimp po’boy with chicken gumbo and the Viet seafood po’boy with shrimp & okra gumbo. The vibe alone is worth the visit—horror memorabilia mixed with strong New Orleans energy.
The po’boys were huge and loaded. Fried shrimp was perfectly crispy and tender, and the remoulade really elevated it. My po’boy had great flavor with just the right amount of spice, and the bread was crisp outside and soft inside. The gumbos were good, but not the star.
Definitely coming back to try more of the menu.

The Voodoo Chicken Po' boy is the best tasting sandwich I have ever had in my life. That was amazing. The gumbo was also amazing. I don't know if this is true Louisiana cuisine but it tasted fantastic nonetheless.

You know, I question this place as I was walking in. But im telling you the food is amazing. Definitely the voodoo chicken and the chicken gumbo. The service was amazing. On top of that, the food came out quickly. This place is a whole in the wall that was right up our alley. I will be back and im from Wisconsin.
