The Southern in Birmingham was easily one of the highlights of our trip. We stopped in for lunch and ordered the chicken and dumplings, and wow—what an incredible meal. The dish was rich, flavorful, comforting, and packed with the kind of homemade taste that keeps you thinking about it long after you've left. In fact, we talked about that lunch for the rest of the day. The food was so good that we came back the very next day. This time, we tried the chicken sandwich, and it was cooked to perfection crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavor. We added pickles to give the Nashville hot chicken an extra kick, and it elevated the sandwich even more. While the entrees were outstanding, the true star of the show was dessert. Their red velvet cake served with ice cream is absolutely phenomenal. It was so good that we ordered it two days in a row! Moist, rich, and perfectly balanced, it's one of those desserts you'll find yourself craving long after your visit. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was welcoming, and every item we tried exceeded expectations. If you're visiting Birmingham, The Southern is a must-visit destination. Even if you're not looking for a full meal, stop by for dessert and a nightcap you won't regret it!

I absolutely LOVED the food, the vibe, and the extra bonus request the Miles College Choir honored. We were a party of four and arrived for brunch. We were seated immediately. Our waitress Sydney (spelling) was very personable, engaging, and quick witted (table joke). There was not one complaint from our table about the food! My daughter even stated, "Ma, it must be good because you would have stopped by now." I just kept saying, "This is so good!" I had the southern breakfast bowl with Conecuh sausage, and the "peach" French toast. Parking is tough! You can street park for FREE in front, if you get a spot. We walked around the corner and use Park Mobile. I paid about $3.50 for three hours, which was more than enough time. Lastly, I asked Miles College Director if they could sing a little something for me. Two of us were celebrating our baptism. Let me tell you those "babies" did not disappoint! I LOVED IT!

If you’re ever in Birmingham, Alabama, you have to check out Southern Kitchen & Bar! And when you do, ask for Tayma—she is hands down one of the best servers we’ve ever had. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, so friendly, and every recommendation she made was absolutely perfect. The food,Beyond amazing. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. There honestly wasn’t a single thing on our table that we didn’t love or wouldn’t order again! Here’s what we enjoyed: 🍗 Lemon Thyme Chicken – absolutely delicious! 🥩 Bone-In Pork Chop with roasted red potatoes, seasoned green beans, and a spicy peach glaze – incredible! 🍚 Tenderloin Tips & Rice – packed with flavor. 🧀 Mac & Cheese – one of the best we’ve ever had. 🌶️ 🧀 Pimento Cheese Dip – a must-order appetizer! 🍟 Jalapeño Honey Fries – sweet, spicy, and so good! From the appetizers to the entrées, everything exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the service was outstanding, and the food was phenomenal. ⭐️ Great food. ⭐️ Great service. ⭐️ Great atmosphere. This is definitely a place we’ll be coming back to, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience. Do yourself a favor and put Southern Kitchen & Bar on your list—you won’t be disappointed

We stopped into Southern Kitchen and did it right—grabbed seats at the bar where everything comes together. We kicked things off with two MVP Old Fashioneds ($12), and asked to swap the Bulleit Rye for Bulleit Bourbon. Easy yes—and they’ll let you choose your bourbon. Nice touch. Pro tip: there’s a $5 upcharge per drink for that swap, which caught us off guard since the bottles are comparable. Just something to be aware of. Food absolutely delivered. The steak with mac & cheese was chef’s kiss, and the chicken and dumplings were just as strong—comfort food done right. As the meal rolled on, live music started up and brought the place to life. That led to round two: a local Good People Hazy Snake IPA (solid pick), and a lemon drop martini that the bartender elevated with a blackberry purée twist—best drink of the night and no upcharge. Service was quick, staff was friendly, and the whole experience felt easy and welcoming. We’ll definitely be back—just a little wiser on the drink upgrades next time.

I took my mom, aunt and my buddy visiting from Atlanta to this restaurant on Monday for lunch. We ordered the pimento cheese and fried okra for the appetizer. For the main dish we ordered the pork chop, chicken pot pie and grouper. Boy oh boy it was delicious and our server was fantastic.
